How To Choose Health Insurance And Make Next Year Your YOU Year
Did you know in Minnesota, there’s this thing called MNsure which allows people WHO WORK FOR THEMSELVES to buy health insurance at the same rate as if you worked in the corporate world?
I have an idea for you. Hear me out…what if you strategically utilize our *** (fill in the curse word) health insurance system to your benefit next year. We’re in open enrollment season so you have the option.
If you’re ready to feel better, figure out what’s holding you back from your best self, and capitalize on all those dollars you’ve been spending over the past umpteen years only to get shitty healthcare and feel like you’re wasting money just in case you end up in the hospital.. Get ready for this…
Check out MNSURE for affordable plans which, sure…at first glance, seem to have high deductibles. But think about this.
You need shoulder surgery (20K), physical therapy three times weekly for 3-6 months (9K) and orthopedic appointments (6K), a dermatology to rule out skin cancer ($500) maybe surgery for skin cancer (10K+),
You get my point…
What if your (and your family’s) deductible is 7K-20K. WHAT IF…
You planned to pick a plan that optimized your out of pocket costs compared to the treatment you could finally get, and come out on top instead of the insurance companies?
My plan as an individual is somewhere between 400-500/month with a $6200 deductible. This option allows me to use an HSA plan to deposit $6700 yearly, tax free.
But if I plan to use 100K in medical services, my total out of pocket cost is just under 13K.
One kicker you need to think about is what the co-pay is after your deductible is met. Usually paying a higher upfront cost is going to get you the best deal. SO! If you can plan for this….YOU CAN GET HEALTHY AND NOT LOSE EVERYTHING.
